Ceramics and concrete have a lot in common!

FORMER• was founded in 2005 by Cattis Steffensen as a designer of concrete objects. Her journey as a designer began 40 years ago. Originals were often made from clay or plaster, so the transition to ceramics wasn’t that big of a leap.
I’ve actually even used the concrete mixer as a potter’s wheel :)

The ceramics studio opened in October 2024 with a focus on classes, in a newly built small house on my property in Mölnlycke, Gothenburg. I both designed and built the house myself. The environment is inspiring, with high ceilings and large windows overlooking the lake. It’s cozy and practically furnished for small groups. This is my dream! I’m passionate about helping more people discover how good it feels to create. Clay itself is simply magical!

It should be easy to be creative—for everyone. That’s where plaster and casting molds come in as superb tools. My molds can be used to create smooth concrete objects or beautiful plaster press molds for ceramics. Or why not make your own molds for liquid casting clay? If you take a mold-making course, you’ll learn how to make your own plaster mold based on your original wheel-thrown piece. Then it’s both quick and easy to cast replicas and glaze them however your imagination leads you!
